I Want to Hate Rosario Dawson...and other musings
So, yesterday I was finally able to buy the movie soundtrack for "Rent". I've been really excited about the movie version of this musical, and after reading some reviews on Amazon.com, I decided to give the soundtrack a listen.
First of all, let me say that I am very sad that for whatever reason Daphne Rubin Vega was unable to do the film. I love her as Mimi...'
...and I was fully prepared to HATE Rosario Dawson...but after listening to the album, I kinda like her as Mimi. In "Light My Candle" she give the best delivery of the line "They say that I have the best ass below 14th Street, is it true?" Very sexy.
But on the whole I'm unimpressed with the new version. While musically it's good...it just doesn't have the same raw energy of the original Broadway album. I realize that it's been produced for Hollywood...but some of my favorite bits have apparently just been cut out entirely. But, I'll still see the film.
Speaking of films...I took next Friday off so I can spend the afternoon taking in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I'm incredibly excited about this film. Goblet is my favorite of the books...so I'm looking forward to seeing the screen adaptation and then bitching about it afterwards.
In other news...
Yesterday I finally filled my gas tank for less than $20. Yes, gasoline in Oklahoma City can now be purchased at some stations for less than $2/gallon. I was very excited as the past few months it's been almost too expensive to drive. I've had to shop for groceries at a store I don't even like (Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market just west of Penn) to save on driving the extra 4 miles to Crest Foods down on Meridian. Now I can drive to the store I really want to shop at.
And speaking of shopping, we went to Bed Bath & Beyond last night. I am now officially in love with that store. After about an hour of searching Joe managed to find a full sheet set of 300 thread count sateen sheets for me for only $20. I was amazed...I then had to go and buy some extra pillowcases as well, as the set only had 2...and after I got home and made up the bed with the new sheets, I realized that the color was a little off from my comforter...so I'm going to go back and find a duvet to match. :-)
Anyway...I've been so caught up at work for the last week that I've had very little to do. So, I figured I should take the chance while I could to update here. I'm going to go back to twiddling my thumbs and attempting to look busy.
Later...

You know, for an "untrained" actress -- she is really quite good. I think Larry Clarke discovered her.
I knew I was officially old when I saw RENT on stage and sided with the landlord.
I will, however, see the movie just because it is so rare to see a musical on the big screen anymore. I am also curious to see how the two lead actors do at playing the same characters some 10 years later and having to pass for the same age. LOL!
My sheets are 1800 thread count! Yay! ...I remember not even knowing such a high count existed!
*cough*
I hope you are not having too much fun that you've forgotten all about your fellow bloggers!
Missing you !!
