I'm on to you, Maroon 5 (and other assorted ramblings)
So, tonight I was wandering around Best Buy, looking for some CDs to purchase. As I was perusing through the "M's" I cam across the section devoted to Maroon 5.
Now, I like Maroon 5. I think that "Songs About Jane" is an incredible album. There's one track on that CD. In fact, Track 12, titled "Sweetest Goodbye" can actually reduce me to tears each time I hear it.
However. They have now repackaged the songs from this album in yet another version. First they released the album. Then they released a mini-album that featured a few of the songs from the albums in their "Live" forms.
Now they have released the entire album again, but with 3 or 4 remixes just tacked onto the end.
Guys...just record another album already. Stop playing on air commentators for VH1 specials and get your hot little asses back into the studio and record a follow up. It's been a LONG time since your first single hit the airwaves...so I'm sure you've
written a few more songs by now...Please, I'm begging you. Stop just re-releasing "Songs About Jane".
*********Other News**********
Finished the new Harry Potter this morning. Every one of the books in the damn Harry Potter series has reduced me to tears at some point. At "Half Blood Prince" did not disappoint. I was blubbering for quite a while this morning.
Picked up a copy for me and one for Tim on Friday night at midnight.
Oh, and by the way...the freaks were out at Barnes and Noble friday night. I've been to Star Trek conventions where I felt less discomfited. I could have dealt with the children dressed up as their favorite characters. But somehow seeing single, childless, non B&N employed adults waltzing around that store dressed as Harry and Hermione was cringe worthy.
Read a fair amount before I headed to bed Friday night and then Tim and I sat around Saturday morning and read for a few hours.
While I'll not comment on any particular plot aspects...I found this book far more satisfying than I did "Order of the Phoenix". There was just so much going on. Great read.
Now I'm sitting here listening to old school Erasure and waiting for Family Guy to come on so I can do some ironing. (On Sunday nights I do my ironing for the week while watching Family Guy. Only Family Guy can make ironing interesting.)
Well, I'm out for now...

Yeah, isn't that marketing ploy annoying? There are a number of artist who do this now. Tho, am not so sure it is the artist as much as the label for which they record. I think the major label -- well, ok, labels -- tho, I suspect Sony owns all of them. Anyway, most of the big labels will only let an artist release so much new material at a time.
The first one I noticed who re-packaged/mixed the same CD in multiple formats was Mary J. Blige -- and I think it only resulted in confusion for her fan base -- and when she finally reunited with PDiddy (or whatever silly name he was then working under) and release a CD of new material -- if sunk like a dud. It can be had for 99 cents at most used CD stores. Shame, too because it was a good CD.
I can remember when the release of a new "album" by an artist would be a BIG DEAL. And, it wasn't all "buzz" created by marketing teams -- it would be real rock journalism and word of mouth. I remember that Fleetwood Mac's TUSK was, like, the biggest deal when it came out. It was their first follow-up to Rumours and, at that point the whole band had sexed eachother up at various intervals, All 4 were knee deep in coke and pot and Lindsey Buckingham tried to take complete control of the "project" -- and the rest of the band just kept getting more and more obsessed with single trax. It was almost all you heard about in the world of rock journalism for a couple of years -- till it was released.
Of course, at the time, no one understood what to make of that album --- now a classic.
But, something of that sort would never be made today. Now, you would get something like what they released back in 2003. Middle of the road and corporate controlled.
Oh, my gosh! Underling, I just wrote a book for a comment --- sorry! LOL!
lol...that's cool Matt.
I just can't believe that we've had three versions of the same fucking Maroon 5 CD come out, while a certain record label has been holding a new Fiona Apple release for more than a year without releaing it.
I need some new Fiona!!!
What do you think is the real story behind the Fiona hold-up? Do you think it self-imposed or is it the label?
Why is Fiona not speaking --- nothing ever stopped her before!
NO MORE TURKEY!!!!! LOL!
I would like to get a new Fiona fix as well. One of the few talented/visionary artists out there.
